An Important Message from Your CAST Executive
Dear Concordia Theatre students,
There has been a great deal of speculation and concern within our community about the potential impact of Concordia’s impending budget cuts on the theatre department (theatre and dance are the hardest hit within the entire university) and the possibility of upcoming strike action by CUFA (the union representing full-time faculty). Please be assured that your CAST executive is working as hard as we can to get information on both of these issues so that we can advocate for and support our community over the coming months.
These issues will affect all of us! Please inform yourselves. A good place to start is by attending the Fine Arts Faculty Council Meeting from 9am-12pm, Friday, February 15th in EV 2.776. Interim Provost Lisa Ostiguy will be presenting the proposed budget cuts, and student presence will send a strong message that we are paying attention to this process and its impact on our department. Ned will be there on behalf of the CAST executive, as will FASA executive members, all of whom are advocating on our behalf as well. Please come if you can.
With regard to the potential full-time faculty strike, we suggest that students read this FAQ from CUFA for context. It is our understanding that CUFA will be holding a strike vote on March 1st; we will be sure to pass on further information as it becomes available.
Please share this widely and stay tuned for further updates. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to answer them.
Lindsey, Miriam and Ned
PLEASE NOTE: An earlier version of this post suggested that a strike vote was being held by part-time faculty, not full-time faculty. We’ve recently learned that it is in fact the full-time faculty association that is holding a strike vote on March 1st. Apologies for the confusion. (Updated February 14, 2013)
